Scholar Program
for students graduating with a baccalaureate degreeCall for Applications
Applications must be received by April 4, 2008.Program Description
The Institute for Information Infrastructure Protection (I3P) seeks to advance its national research agenda through a scholar program. The I3P scholar program will help to build a nationwide cadre of investigators focused on critical research challenges, provide recent graduates with an exceptional educational opportunity and enhance the research activities of I3P Consortium member institutions. Recent baccalaureate degree recipients selected to participate in the program will have a high quality one year work experience performing information security research in residence at one of the I3P Consortium member institutions.
Eligibility
Successful applicants will have received, or be expecting to receive, a bachelor’s level degree from an accredited US institution of higher education in 2007 or 2008. Applicants must complete all degree requirements prior to the commencement of the award. Applicants must hold US citizenship or an appropriate visa. Awards may be deferred or withdrawn at the discretion of the I3P review panel if degree requirements are not complete by the planned start date.
Award Information
The I3P will appoint up to three scholars each year. Scholars must spend the 12-month term of their program in residence at an I3P member institution. Scholar funding will be provided by the I3P and administered locally by Consortium member institutions. The I3P will cover a salary for each scholar of $30,000-$40,000 (depending on location) over a one year period, $3,000 for program-related travel, plus fringe benefits and institutional costs associated with sponsoring a scholar. The full amount will be determined in coordination with the sponsoring institution. Scholars are expected to begin their program between June and September 2008, and remain in the program for one year. The host institution must agree to perform written mid-year and year-end reviews of a scholar’s work and submit the reviews to the I3P administrative office. Scholars are expected to attend an orientation session and to present their work accomplishments at the end of the program.
