Since 2005, the I3P has dedicated increasing effort and resources to actively coordinating and funding cyber security research to help secure U.S. critical information infrastructures. This has been achieved by funding two multi-institutional research projects that target process control systems and the economics of cyber security. The research topics were selected through open dialogue within the Consortium that considered gaps in national efforts, the criticality of the topic and the impact the I3P could have. The research is undertaken by teams composed of multiple Consortium members, which is a hallmark of all I3P research projects. Each project has a team leader who has overall responsibility for the project, particularly for meeting milestones and producing deliverables. The team leaders are in regular communication with the I3P Chair and the I3P Administrative Office on progress, funding questions, and other challenges as they arise.
