Overview of I3P Projects

The I3P is dedicating increasing effort and resources to actively coordinating and funding cyber security research to help secure US critical information infrastructures – in essence, solving some of the problems identified in the 2003 Cyber Security Agenda and elsewhere. This will be done by funding promising research proposals and making fellowships available in the field.
Phase II Research Projects (2007-2009)

Digital Commons
The I3P Digital Commons seeks to be the premiere research site for
identifying resources in the broad area of information infrastructure
protection. The suite of tools, services, and resources associated with
the Digital Commons are free and open to the public.

Economics
This project focuses on the difficult economic decisions to be made when
crafting effective security strategies. In particular, the goal is to
develop models and data that enable us to quantify the economic impact
of security failures in information infrastructure and responses; using
them, we can inform policy and decision making. We will undertake
research that will develop an understanding of how the information
security marketplace functions and thus which market and policy
mechanisms will be most effective in promoting and protecting
information security at all levels of the information infrastructure.

Process Control Systems
The Process Control Systems Security Research Project is focusing cyber security related research at some of the country’s top institutions on improving the robustness of the information infrastructure in the oil and gas sector. Eleven institutions from across the country have joined forces to develop new solutions and demonstrate their effectiveness to the oil and gas sector owners, operators, and vendors.
